Project Management for Cheltenham and Gloucester
INTRODUCTION
Cheltenham and Gloucester (C&G) is a mortgage and savings provider in the UK. Formerly an independent building society they are now a brand owned by, and being progressively merged into the Loyds TSB Banking group. C&G had a legacy consumer website, however it was difficult for consumers to navigate and most critically, the bespoke technology platform was antiquated. Consequently the marketing team were unable to manage content (product descriptions, interest rates, terms, promotions etc.) relying instead on technical teams to make changes.
THE CHALLENGE
Full lifecycle project management:
To manage a small team (Tech Lead, Information Architect, Art Director and Copywriter) from the digital agency Razorfish working on site at C&G to deliver a prototype for the new website within two weeks
To use Agile processes to deliver a fully working, redesigned and redeveloped C&G website, built on an approachable, stable Content Management System within 8 weeks
IMPACT
Using a series of intensive workshops and stakeholder interviews, our team was able to work through initial design and information architecture deliverables, hitting our target of an interactive HTML prototype. This was delivered to C&G within two weeks.
Following feedback on the prototype from C&G our team was expanded to deliver the full design and build. After 8 weeks we were able to deploy the first phase of the fully developed C&G website with a cleaner visual design, clear navigation and much-improved signposting of content, new panels for promoted content and clear CTA's & forms to signpost the jump-off point for user journeys.
We followed up with another iteration of work to update the visual design of the savings and mortgage calculators.
Critically all content, including interest rate changes, changes to terms and changes to the algorithms driving the calculators could all be made easily and safely via the newly implemented .net content management system.
